About Harvey Faust

A recreation professional since 1968, Harvey Faust graduated from the University of Mississippi with both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and a Master’s of Arts in Recreation Administration. Upon entering the recreation field, Mr. Faust became an influential professional through his time serving as Director of the Oxford, Mississippi Park Commission for ten years, while also teaching at the University of Mississippi’s School of Health, Physical Education, & Recreation.

Mr. Faust then went on to work as the Director of Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Affairs in Biloxi, Mississippi, prior to accepting a position with the Germantown, Tennessee Parks and Recreation Department. During his time in Germantown Mr. Faust help to develop their recreation program into one of the leading and most innovative departments in the nation. In 2000, the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) Board of Trustees chose Mr. Faust as the National Distinguished Professional Award winner.

Mr. Faust is a shining example of dedication and service to the recreation industry both here in Mississippi and the rest of the nation. Through the years Mr. Faust has remained a great supporter of the professional development and successes of the students at the University. The Harvey Faust Scholarship Golf Tournament’s mission is to honor Mr. Faust, his achievements, and legacy as a University of Mississippi Alumnus and recreation professional while also raising support for the continued education and development of the University’s Park & Recreation Management students.
